EPS Students Test Their 2022 Design Projects

On a rainy day in early December, Pre-Engineering and Physics majors from the class of 2026 conducted the final tests of their design projects for the Introduction to Engineering (EPS131) Course.

The design project was supervised by Dr. Noah Hammond, and judged by Drs. Hammond and Ribaudo.

Students were challenged with creating a Helium balloon-based vessel that could “gently” land a small mass on the ground after being released from an elevated platform.

The designs carefully balanced the forces of gravity and buoyancy, but were somewhat disrupted by the forces of wind and the added weight of raindrops.
